WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton has finally raised his voice against Facebook. Through his tweet, he is asking people to delete their Facebook accounts using the hashtag #deletefacebook. The particular hashtag is going viral for a few days but the one to finally give it a voice and a strong opinion is Brian Acton.
Just a few days earlier, On Wednesday, he tweeted “It is time. #deletefacebook”.
The movement is started because Facebook is claimed to be misusing data collected from Cambridge Analytica. They are claimed to be illegally harvesting users profile. And hence its the matter of Facebook account holder’s safety, security and privacy a movement has started against the app.
Brian Acton is the one who co-founded WhatsApp along with Jan Koum. He then left the company to start something all by himself. It was three years later when Brian left WhatsApp when Facebook started his app messenger worth $16 billion which is Rs. 1,04,300 crores.
He has now developed an app called ‘Signal’ which is also a messaging app like WhatsApp. This app would give a tough competition to WhatsApp and through this app, Brian Acton is trying to steal WhatsApp users. It is said that “signal” is Brian’s $50 million investment. Also through this app Brian ensure the safety, security, and privacy of their customers.
It is a notable point that Brian is not the only former worker at Facebook who went against it and spread negativity about the app, Chamath Palihapitiya, former VP of User Growth, Mobile, and International at Facebook, also spoke against the app last year. He said that he finds himself extremely guilty to be a part of something which is a poison for the youth of today. He said that he apologizes for creating something “that is ripping apart the social fabric of how society works”.
